Enormous Flops from the Summer Transfer Window

Real Madrid paid £30 million for Tottenham’s Luka Modric in the summer of 2012—a sum that would suggest the Croatian was seen as their next galatico and a man Jose Mourinho would turn to for inspiration.
Thus far, it hasn’t quite worked out like that. Modric has failed to hold down a regular spot in Mourinho’s team. He'd been labelled the most disappointing Liga signing of 2012 and is already being linked with a move away from the Bernabeu (Daily Star).
Liverpool signing Fabio Borini wasn’t nearly as expensive, but he certainly comes under the same category of “players to have spectacularly underwhelmed” so far. The Italian has struggled with injuries, but that doesn’t excuse his poor offering when he has been in Liverpool’s team.
And what of Scott Sinclair, the midfielder Manchester City signed for £8 million to look good on their bench? Sinclair has started once since October, and that ended with his being substituted before the hour mark.
